Crisis Services

The Crisis Residential Unit (CRU) is a small residential psychiatric facility serving adults in Huntington and Charleston WV. This voluntary program provides a safe, intensive treatment environment for those experiencing an acute mental health crisis. The crisis unit can prevent psychiatric hospitalization, or, it serves as a step-down for consumers exiting the psychiatric hospital setting. Evaluations and plans for treatment services are decided at admission and focus on the problems that may trigger a crisis situation.

Crisis stabilization services include daily psychiatric medication reviews, group therapy, individual and group supportive counseling, education about mental illness, treatment planning, on-going evaluation, case management and planning treatment services to ease the transition back into the community.

Admission Criteria

Consumers of the Crisis Residential Unit must be 18 years of age or older, have severely impaired judgment that poses an active danger to self and others, display active psychotic behavior and has documented failure of outpatient treatment.

Additional criteria for admission include the need for close monitoring and medication stabilization that would be difficult or impossible to accomplish on an outpatient basis. The consumer has been evaluated and determined to require a structured, intensive residential program because a less restrictive service alone is not adequate to resolve the current crisis and intensive treatment interventions are necessary to prevent hospitalization.

If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please call 1-800-642-3434 or 877-399-7776, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
