Program Description

Mentor Employment - ME is a community based employment program in which consumers are referred. Once referred consumers are referred to The Department of Rehabilitative Services for vocational assessment. An active DRS case is established and consumers are referred to the appropriate program. Depending on the functional ability and interpersonal skill level consumers can participate in the following vocational services:
  • Supported employment-Consumers are offered a job and their employment is supported by skilled staff that works along side consumers to train and support them.
  • Job placement and coaching-Consumers are assisted to find a job they are interested in. Staff then monitor, coach, and train the consumer to be successful in their employment and remain employed.
  • Prevocational Training is a program of classroom setting type training for consumers that need certain basic skills to obtain competitive employment and maintain employment. This training is done by job coaches for consumers that are working and desire to continue working.
  • Community based vocational exploration, assessment, and training-Consumers get the chance to perform various jobs as volunteers, their progress is assessed and once a suitable job is determined they are trained and monitored to be successful.

If an active DRS case cannot be established then, the consumer can be placed on a State Use Contract that provides Janitorial Services, Low Impact Monitoring, Temporary Services or Water Distribution.
