Program Description

The Crisis Residential Unit (CRU) is an eight (8) bed inpatient psychiatric facility for adults 18 and older. This voluntary program provides a safe, intensive treatment environment for those experiencing an acute mental health crisis. The crisis unit is utilized to prevent psychiatric hospitalization and has also been used to step-down consumers from the hospital setting. Treatment planning and assessments are completed upon admission to address any issues that have triggered the current crisis.

The Crisis Stabilization Unit (CRU) provides a safe, intensive treatment environment for those experiencing a mental health crisis and/or those needing immediate medication adjustment to prevent psychiatric deterioration or exacerbation of symptoms. The CRU is utilized to prevent psychiatric hospitalizations or can serve as a step down from the hospital level of care.

Crisis stabilizations services include:

  • Daily psychiatric medication reviews
  • Group therapy
  • Individual and Group supportive intervention
  • Education about consumer's illness
  • Treatment planning
  • Assessment
  • Case management referral

Staffing Pattern

  • Psychiatrist available daily
  • Licensed / License eligible therapists
  • RN and LPN 24 hours per day
  • Behavioral Rehabilitation Specialists 24 hours per day

Days/Hours of Operation

365 days per year staffed 24-hours per day.

Admission Criteria

  • Consumers must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Consumer is severely impaired judgment that poses an active danger to self or others.
  • Consumer displays active psychotic behavior.
  • There is documented failure of outpatient treatment.
  • Consumer requires a closely monitored medication stabilization that would be difficult or impossible to accomplish on an outpatient basis
  • Consumer is experiencing a crisis due to a mental condition and/or impairment in functioning due to acute psychiatric signs and symptoms.
  • Consumer is assessed as needing a structured, intensive intervention because a less restrictive service alone are not adequate or appropriate to resolve the current crisis or meet the consumer=s needs.
  • Consumer is in need of an intensive treatment intervention to prevent hospitalization.
