Description of Program

The Adult Substance Abuse Outpatient Program provides a low-intensity and intensive services to adults experiencing substance abuse and dependency problems. The program strives to improve the quality of life and support for individuals who are chemically dependent or abusing alcohol and/or drugs. The focus of service is to assist the consumer in making measured improvements in maintaining a chemical-free lifestyle through counseling and 12-step recovery. Structured groups focus on pre-treatment needs, addiction, recovery needs, relapse prevention, and 12-step recovery process.

For men … Outpatient services assist the consumer in making measured improvements in maintaining a chemical-free lifestyle through counseling and the 12-step recovery process. The first step begins with a clinical evaluation with a professional addictions therapist, who will make some initial recommendations at this first session. Consumers may then be scheduled for individualized treatment services.

For women … Renaissance Outpatient includes a full range of services based on the unique needs and experiences of chemically dependent women and their children. Prestera also offers such services as parenting skill development and referrals for educational/vocational training and medical services.

Admission Criteria

  • A diagnosis of substance abuse/dependence as evidenced by either tolerance or withdrawal and she or he has at least two of the following:
    • significant impairment in carrying out major role obligations at work or in school;
    • significant disturbance of relationships with family members related to alcohol and other drug use;
    • persistent use of alcohol and other drugs in spite of negative consequences (including legal problems);
    • efforts to curtail, control or stop the use of alcohol and other drugs (without treatment) have failed.
  • Medically stable with no condition requiring 24-hour care
  • Not violent, homicidal or suicidal
  • Free from physical withdrawal symptoms with no current use of substances
  • Symptoms and functional impairment warrant high level of support
  • Intervention in a less restrictive environment has failed or is deemed as not appropriate.
