Overdose Awareness Day 8/31/2016
August 15, 2016
Prestera Center will honor International Overdose Awareness Day on Wednesday, August 31, 2015 at 1:30 pm at Pinecrest at 5600 US Route Sixty East in Huntington, WV. The event is free and open to the public. Overdose Awareness Day educates the community about drug overdose prevention and reduces the stigma of drug-related overdose deaths by acknowledging the shame and grief experienced by friends and family members. Local experts will provide brief presentations about how communities are preventing drug overdoses. Visual displays will honor the 129 Americans on average that lose their lives every day to drug overdoses, as well as the 70 lives lost in Cabell County (WV) in 2015. At 2:30 pm, free naloxone training will be provided by the staff of the Cabell Huntington Health Department and the Marshall University School of Pharmacy. Naloxone is a life-saving opiate (painkillers and/or heroin) overdose reversal drug. Everyone who completes the naloxone training session will leave with two free doses of naloxone.
